Jackie Evancho Bio
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jacqueline Marie "Jackie" Evancho (born April 9, 2000) is a young soprano from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Evancho was born to Michael and Lisa Evancho and has an older brother, a younger brother, and a younger sister.[1] She started singing when she was seven years old, after watching the movie Phantom of the Opera. Her mother heard Evancho singing songs from the movie and allowed her to enter a local talent contest just for fun. She finished as the runner-up and was voted the audience favorite. Eventually she participated in other talent contests and started a YouTube channel.[2]

Evancho has performed onstage with producer David Foster[3], was an invited performer on the PBS Special "Celebrate America" with conductor/composer Tim Janis, sang the National Anthem at an event honoring aviation pioneer General Chuck Yeager[4], and has performed many times at the invitation of Pennsylvania Senator Jane Orie[5]. Jackie also performs at numerous events and charity functions in and around her hometown[6].

Jackie Evancho sings in the "classical crossover" style of singers such as Hayley Westenra and Sarah Brightman. She studies singing with a voice coach,[7] and also plays the violin and piano.[1]

On November 1, 2009, Evancho released her debut album called Prelude to a Dream.[8][9] The album features mainly covers of songs such as Martina McBride's Concrete Angel, Josh Groban's To Where You Are, and a cover of Amazing Grace among others. Several crossover selections appear on the album; "Con te Partiro" is not an operatic piece; "O Mio Babbino Caro" does appear in an opera: Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi" The version of Schubert's "Ave Maria" heard on the album is not the original song, which is set to a secular text in German. Instead, it's an arrangement of the Roman Catholic setting of the "Hail Mary" prayer in Latin.

On December 2, 2010, she is scheduled to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York City and will be the youngest female vocal soloist ever to have performed there.[10]

On August 10, 2010, on America's Got Talent[11], she performed O Mio Babbino Caro by Giacomo Puccini. The aria is also on her debut album. She received a standing ovation after her performance, and was awarded a trip to Universal Studios in Florida for receiving the most fan votes from the submissions to the show from YouTube

Jackie Evancho on 'America's Got Talent': 10-year-old singer stuns audience with booming voice
By Anthony Benigno Daily News Writer Wednesday, August 11th 2010, 9:57 AM

Jackie Evancho, 10, stole the show on 'America's Got Talent' Tuesday night with her rendition of Puccini's 'O Mio Babbino Caro.'

Young Jackie Evancho's performance on "America's Got Talent" Tuesday night brought down the house, reverberated through TV land and made her the most-searched person on Google early Wednesday morning.

With all the attention the budding performer has received in the past 24 hours, there's really only one question to ask: Who is Jackie Evancho?

The singer, 10, does not have the platinum pelt of Justin Bieber or the Mouse-House following of the Jonas Brothers, but thanks to her flooring performance on "America’s Got Talent," the Pittsburgh native is already being called the next Susan Boyle, according to USA Today.

Evancho's appearance on "Talent" was part of a viral-themed wrinkle for the competition show; all the performers who appeared Tuesday night submitted their auditions via YouTube. Judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel voted on 10 of the acts, and according to host Nick Cannon, Evancho was voted through as the 11th contestant by viewers at home.

Before Evancho took the stage, a taped intro clip ran down the finer points of the young girl's life at home. "I have two brothers and one sister, a big garden and we have ducks in it. It's so much fun!" beamed Evancho, who started singing after seeing "Phantom of the Opera." According to Babble.com, she has already released a self-produced album called "Prelude to a Dream."
